How cruel can we continue to be to ourselves?!?! This weekend we decided to get out and look at dogs. It has been killing both of us just thinking about how fun it would be to have one again. Jess has had many puppies and we both lost our dogs in the wake of our divorces.. so needless to say we wanted them again. Its easy to consider getting another dog when we are both so easy going and in love with them. The bad part is we dont have a ton of room to have one and we already have two silly felines. However, it never fails to come into a conversation when we are outside at the park, or walking around the neighborhood at night. "Wouldnt it be so nice to have a little puppy running around with us now?" OR "Oh this park would be soo fun to play fetch in with our dog" Or my favorite, "I want a puppy.." It is constantly being brought up, and my mom always laughs and says that its just great that I married someone who loves animals, now my house will no doubt be full of them. Well, we are working on it. So, having the weekend we decided to go look at some of the shelters we had browsed online. Like we werent torturing ourselves enough by searching for dogs online, now we MUST go play with them. "Its just to get a fix" we say to each other, all the while searching for the perfect dog. Our tastes are very different, Jess loves Huskeys, German Shepards, Border Collies, and Heelers. I on the other hand love Boxers, Pitbulls, and anything with bully faces, muscluar shoulders and short hair. Obviously these are completely different tastes. But, we both love each other enough to indulge in our differences. While at the San Antonio shelter, meandering through the 4 kennels full of dogs we came upon a pair of puppies that we both loved.
Gracy is a 6 month old Staffordshire terrier mix, absolutely adorable (obviously she has alittle bully face lol) and Sporty who is a young border collie mix. Apparently they were rescued together and the shelter wanted to keep the two together. So, we
played with them, and loved them.. We signed all the paperwork and asked them to be put on hold til we talked about it, away from the adorable faces, and decide on mon. We could have talked ourselves into too. We decided that as much as we want dogs, and those two especially, we just cant do it yet. YET... Jess and I have made a pact to stop torturing ourselves with the idea of getting a dog, for the moment, and shall continue being satisfied with our crazy kitties instead... For now.....

I have an idea. Why don't you just volunteer at the shelter and take different dogs out to play. Then you can put them back and someone else can feed them and clean up the poop and you can sleep in when you want and go where you want when you want. Your carpet will smell clean and no slobbery food and water bowls. NO fights with ~ or dead cats. I am sure the shelter would appreciate you teaching the dogs to associate. How bout it?
ReplyDeleteWay to wait...get a bunny instead! :) That is what I am working on doing right now....just haven't found the right one.
ReplyDeleteLOL lovely, if I were to work there I would end up bringing home a puppy every week! Its a weakness I tell you what! Though all that other stuff sounds great! I just need to keep away from cute puppies til we can handle one.. And Jess doesnt like bunnies lol, so maybe a fish or a bird.. wont he LOVE that lol...
